Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a small bowl, gently combine the warm water, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and instant yeast. Let stand until foamy, about 10 minutes.

02

Step

Meanwhile, gently heat the milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until it bubbles, about 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the butter until melted and smooth.

03

Step

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, combine 2 1/4 cups of flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, salt, and yeast mixture; mix well. Add 1/4 cup water, egg, and the warm milk-butter mixture; mix until combined. Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. The dough should be slightly sticky but manageable with floured hands.

04

Step

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 5 minutes. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let rest for 10 minutes.

05

Step

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, softened butter, raisins, pecans, and 1 tablespoon cinnamon for the filling. Sprinkle a thin layer of the filling on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish, then coat with cooking spray.

06

Step

Roll the dough into a 1/4-inch thick rectangle measuring approximately 9x12 inches. Cut into 6 equal strips. Spread each strip with a thin, even layer of filling and roll up. Transfer to the prepared baking dish. Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.

07

Step

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

08

Step

Bake the rolls in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 20 minutes. Remove from the pan to cool slightly.

09

Step

For the icing, combine the cream cheese frosting, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl. Slowly pour in the melted butter and mix until smooth and thick, but still liquid enough to drizzle. Spoon the icing generously over the warm rolls and serve immediately.

For an extra rich flavor, use brown butter instead of melted butter in the icing.
Feel free to experiment with different nuts, such as walnuts or almonds, or omit them altogether.
If you don't have cream cheese frosting on hand, a simple powdered sugar glaze works beautifully too.
For best results, serve these cinnamon rolls warm from the oven.
